RED NOSE DAY

On Red Nose Day, millions of British people wear red clowns’ noses for a very good cause. Red Nose Day is a day to raise money to help charity projects in developing countries and in Britain.

In 1985, there was a terrible famine in Ethiopia. A group of British comedians did humorous shows for this serious cause. In 1988, they started Red Nose Day. They encouraged the population to buy and wear red clowns’ noses.

From 1988 to 2015, Red Nose Day raised 1 billion pounds (1.19 billion euros)!

Comedians and schoolchildren are the stars of Red Nose Day. Comedians make funny TV shows and serious documentaries. In 2015, six million school children participated and they raised £7.1 million! A popular activity is having a special “red no uniform day”.
